HE Jianming (Jimmy)

HE Jianming, also known as Jimmy, is a Melbourne-based abstract expressionist oil painter born in 1949 in Zhenhai, China. Before migrating to Australia in 1987, Jimmy studied extensively with the famous Chinese oil painter and educator, Professor CHEN Junde in Shanghai, who was particularly instrumental to Jimmy’s development both as an individual and artist. Paul Cézanne and Vincent van Gogh inspired Jimmy’s oil paintings. Jimmy also draws inspiration from traditional Chinese art, namely the Yongle Temple in Shanxi Province, notable for its dynasty murals, and the Mogao Caves of Dunhuang City in Gansu Province, also known as the Caves of the Thousand Buddhas. Jimmy explores the incredibly rich and beautiful culture of China that dates back thousands of years by weaving Chinese calligraphy and traditional Chinese brushwork into his art and consequently, revealing his deep spiritual concerns and beliefs of the world. Jimmy’s recent works have advanced from the styles of Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning as he unifies the diverse cultures of the East and the West.
