CHEN Ning
BORN IN CHINA,
LIVES AND WORKS IN AUSTRALIA
Biography
CHEN Ning, born in Shanghai, China, in 1957, graduated from the Shanghai School of Arts and Crafts and is a member of the Shanghai Artists Association. Since 1979, when his Chinese painting “Heart” was selected for the Shanghai Art Exhibition, Ning gained fame in the Chinese comic industry in the 1980s, creating many classic works published by Shanghai People’s Fine Arts Publishing House. After migrating to Melbourne, Australia in 1989, Ning held solo exhibitions in Australia in 1989 and 1991, and in 1993, his work “Wang” won the Melbourne Ross Art Prize. CHEN Ning withdrew from the world of illustration and returned to the field of art, and we witnessed an artist’s contemplation and efforts. Over the past thirty years, Ning held several exhibitions across Australia. The horses that represent the artist are more presented at the spiritual level, with pure visual language, profound painting skills, and philosophical thoughts about life that are forged into a serene and powerful artistic expression.
